During the stolen US election last year, a bishop put on Twitter: “The right wing tells us bishops that we’re in the back pocket of the Democratic Party; the left wing tells us that we’re in the back pocket of the Republican Party. I’m just trying to stay centered on Jesus Christ and His Church.” This is a very misleading tweet, first of all because the democratic party has been giving hundreds of millions of dollars to the US bishops many years back including $91,000,000 from democrats to the USCCB in 2016. It’s also misleading because of a reason found in a reply on Twitter: “Your Eminence, you have to realize that the Left in America is trying to ban Catholicism in America. The Right in America is trying to fight that evil. It’s not wrong to condemn a Party that wants to make our Faith illegal.” (I am sure that person meant that one should be condemn the actions of leftists, not their souls.)
I used to believe that the best way to evangelize was to sit on the fence politically so as to win both the left and the right to Christ. I used to believe that the left had some good points and the right had some good points and that recogizing both sides was the best way to win converts to Catholicism. I used to believe that the person most “like Jesus” might be persecuted by the left and the right (much as Jesus was persecuted by the Sadducees and Pharisees.) I used to believe it was rude to call democrats “demoncrats.” I used to believe it was extreme that anyone would write a book called Liberalism is a Mental Disorder.
But now I see I was wrong on all those accounts. Now I see all those are true. Liberalism is either a mental disorder or a diabolical obsession, much as it was during the French Revolution where people were obsessed with destruction at all costs of truth. I would go so far as to say that a leftist can’t come to Christ unless he wants to be healed of such a diabolical obsession. It’s not charity to “accompany” people into having a mental disorder.
Another example of why non-partisan evangelization is a joke is found in the events of when US bishop publicly stated after the “election” that while Joe Biden was wrong about abortion, he at least promoted “policies that are rooted in the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the social teachings of his Church, especially when it comes to immigration, racism, and capital punishment.” This is wrong. Joe Biden is a total racist and he has never promoted any of the traditional Catholic social teachings of the Church. Indeed, his policies on immigration and capital punishment go against St. Thomas Aquinas and every doctor of the Church on all such issues.
Can a leftist convert and follow Jesus Christ? Sure, but it would have to be a conversion like that of St. Paul because they will have to change on every policy. Literally every. single. policy. In fact, such a conversion required would be more pronounced than any conversion that blessed St. Paul, for that wicked Saul at least believed in natural law as he persecuted Christians. Already, even before his conversion, the truth of basic issues of man and woman were already inscribed on his dark heart, as He later wrote of all hearts (even before becoming Jewish or Christian) as he wrote to the Romans under direct inspiration of the Holy Spirit: For [God’s] invisible attributes, namely, His eternal power and Divine nature, have been clearly perceived, ever since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. So they are without excuse. For although they knew God, they did not honor Him as God or give thanks to Him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their foolish hearts were darkened.—Romans 1:20-21
And then the very next four verses from the Apostle Paul’s letter to the Romans describe exactly why leftists of the 21st century are deprived of not only supernatural faith, but also simple reason: Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man and birds and animals and creeping things. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator who is blessed forever! Amen.—Rom 1:22-25.
So let’s stop telling those on the left that they have a few good points when we know deep inside that they are only out to destroy our countries parishes and families. And yes I’m aware how deep these infernal infiltrations go into the “leadership” of Church and State at this point. The left is trying to build an ideal world without Christ, which is why the destruction needed to “build back better” will only ever be destruction. The left is obsessed with destruction. And that includes our so-called leadership.
But this is not a rah-rah blog post for Republicans or Latin Mass folks. It’s a blog to say that the right needs to stop compromising on the truth just to bring people to Christ (as if compromise on the truth would ever work for a good end.) My problem is with the right, not the left, insofar as the right thinks that we can negotiate with those intellectual terrorists of the left… as if we could still peacefully reach across the aisle to come to a compromise on, say, pre-born baby slaughter that has taken millions of lives (possibly billions of lives when we include the oral contraceptive pill)
Yes, I pray for the conversion of everyone on the left to Jesus Christ and Apostolic Catholicism, but there is no such thing as non-partisan evangelization anymore. Grace builds on nature and we have to admit that grace can’t build on willful mental illness or diabolical obsession without a desire to be healed. Yes, I have been offering Masses for modern genocidal maniacs like Anthony Fauci and Bill Gates but if grace builds on nature (as St. Thomas Aquinas teaches) then Fauci and Gates’ brains will have to fully change to first believe in real science at a natural level before they are even remotely ready to accept the grace of God at a supernatural level and become practicing Catholics (barring a conversion as radical as that of St. Paul… which I totally believe can happen.)
But such conversions are rare and we Catholics need to stop kowtowing to the middle of the political spectrum, as if the truth were somewhere between, say, the Vendée and the leaders of the French Revolution. Or consider how no one tried to evangelize the Nazis by saying, “Hey, I know you have a few good points about the Jews owning too many of the banks, but Jesus loves you and you might want to think about dialing down the holocaust a little bit.” Or, as seen in the Russian Orthodox taking on the Red Army in the featured image at the very top, can you imagine the soldiers keeping their promise to the Orthodox that they get to keep their Divine Liturgy if they just accept a little more communism? Of course not. Deals with authoritarian leftist-tyrants never work out. Never negotiate with a terrorist. Never make a deal with the devil. You’ll always get the short-end of the stick.
The Old Evangelization made a billion converts. The New Evangelization has a net-loss every year. (6 losses to 1 gain every year in the USA, to be specific.) The New Evangelization wants to “meet everyone where they are at.” That’s fine for attitude, but not for conviction. No one is attracted to the smallest compromise on what everyone knows deep inside Catholicism has always stood for. When we fudge the smallest truth to make a convert, we deny Jesus Christ who is the Truth. But when we speak of any truth happening in Church and State (as Christ is King not only of Church, but also State) then we are promoting Jesus Christ. As St. Ambrose wrote: “When we speak about wisdom, we are speaking of Christ. When we speak about justice, we are speaking of Christ. When we speak about peace, we are speaking of Christ. When we speak about truth and life and redemption, we are speaking of Christ.”
